Adult Congenital Heart Disease Taster Sessions
Would you like to learn more about a career in Adult Congenital Heart Disease?
ACHD teams across the UK are offering local taster sessions for medical students, junior doctors and cardiology trainees who want to learn more about the specialty
The number of patients with adult congenital heart disease has been increasing for decades and continues to increase as a result of improvements in paediatric cardiology, paediatric cardiac surgery and better care into adulthood. Approximately 3-4 new ACHD consultants are needed per year to keep up with this increase which is forecast to continue until around 2050. Currently, there are very small numbers of ACHD cardiology trainees in the UK with many more needed. To encourage medical students and trainees into this fascinating area of cardiology, ACHD teams across the UK are offering local taster sessions for medical students, junior doctors and cardiology trainees who want to learn more about the specialty.
The flexible sessions on offer vary from half days to a maximum of 5 days, depending on individual circumstances and location. Sessions will provide an opportunity to meet ACHD teams, observe a variety of clinical settings including out-patient clinics, in-patient ward rounds, diagnostic investigations and interventional procedures (exposure will vary depending on the ACHD centre).
