Main duties of the job

Having successfully adapted to meet the acute needs of the pandemic and deliver the largest vaccination programme in its history, the challenge facing the NHS now is to recover services, reduce health inequalities, and resume progress on the CVD ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan, with the support of the newly formed cardiac networks.

We are seeking to recruit a highly effective National Specialty Adviser for Heart Disease to work with the National Clinical Director for Heart Disease and provide clinical advice and leadership in the following respects:

  • Clinical advice and leadership to drive transformation of services for patients with heart disease to support the delivery of the Long Term Plan ambitions;
  • Clinical advice to support the commissioning of heart disease services;
  • Support and, if required, deputise for the NCD in working with various teams within NHSE&I, including Specialised Commissioning, GIRFT, registries etc.
  • Clinical advice on ad hoc issues to support parliamentary accountability.

NHS England and NHS Improvement are very keen to ensure an equal and diverse workplace and team.  The appointment is offered on secondment on a part time basis for 0.3 WTE which is 1.5 days per week. The initial secondment will run until 31st March 2023.  The reason for the fixed term is due to funding.
