This session from the British Society of Echocardiography provides an overview of the advancing utility of big data in echocardiography through developing predictive models, protocols and improving its role in patient management. This is supported by the ever-growing role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in supporting the echocardiographic workforce to improve quality and standards. The final talk in this session brings these concepts to the real world and highlights current training pathways for those who use echocardiography and how the areas described can aid echocardiographic provision in the UK. Target audience: aimed at medics, healthcare scientists and other allied health professionals with an interest in the current face of echocardiography and how this might look in the not too distant future.

Symposium Title: Red Flags of Fabry Disease: When was the last time you diagnosed a Fabry Cardiomyopathy patient?
Aim of symposium: Fabry Disease (FD) is the second most prevalent lysosomal storage disorder, a rare disease that has cardiac manifestations. Cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of death for FD patients therefore awareness amongst Cardiologists is key for earlier diagnosis and treatment for patients. Currently patients have an approximately 10-year diagnostic odyssey, in which they may be sat undiagnosed within cardiac clinics while their disease progresses. Experts in the field will talk about how knowledge of clinical presentations as well as advanced imaging techniques can be used to identify patients earlier. This year’s symposium will build on the content from last year to support Cardiologists with Fabry disease education, red flags for identifying Fabry Disease, including diagnostic tools and biomarkers and what to do if they suspect Fabry disease.
