Bursary Recipient Report

Dr. Amardeep Dastidar reports from Barcelona on the European Society of Cardiology Congress.

I would like to express my gratitude to the BCS for supporting me with the registration, travel costs and accommodation. It was a great opportunity for me to present my research projects in front of wide international audience.
The Conference

The Fira Gran Via, Barcelona exhibition centre venue was simply amazing. ESC congress was as usual a huge event with nearly 31000 delegates from all over the world. I was particularly interested in the STEMI 2017 Guideline presentations and the case based sessions on Pericardial and Inflammatory disease. The discussions were very helpful in understanding new approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. There was an interesting cath lab complication session and the possible treatment options. There were interesting presentations in the late breaking trials sessions - the REHEARSE, COMPASS, PURE, CASTLE-AF etc.

My presentations

1. Prognostic risk stratification in myocardial infarction with non-obstructed coronaries (MINOCA) by conventional risk factors and cardiac magnetic resonance– Moderated Poster Presentation. The moderator asked some questions but overall was very impressed with our work

2. The role of CMR versus conventional diagnostic markers in myocardial infarction with non-obstructed coronary arteries (MINOCA) – Traditional poster presentation.

Outside the Conference
Barcelona is beautiful and the weather was perfect. I went out with the Cardiologists of Tomorrow group for dinner. This helped me to interact with a number of international fellows and researchers to develop further collaborations.

I would recommend the ESC congress as an excellent cardiology conference, and would strongly encourage fellow registrars to submit abstracts or challenging cases and apply for a BCS travel bursary to support the attendance.
